About the TriVillage Mentor League's John Miller Scholarship Fund

John Miller, TVML President Emeritus, and Bob Long, TVML Board President, present Upper Arlington volunteer teen mentor Jason Hardesty with a $500 college scholarship for his efforts and enthusiasm as a volunteer teen mentor.

In 2004, at the end of more than 10 years of John Miller's leadership, the TriVillage Mentor League created the John Miller Scholarship Fund to honor and celebrate the many years and efforts he has dedicated to ensuring that young people have strong role models and mentors in their lives.

The fund provides: college scholarships to outstanding volunteer teen mentors; Big Brothers Big Sisters Camp Ot'y Okwa scholarships to area youth; and financial assistance to youth who are seeking other camp or enrichment opportunities that will provide them with positive mentoring and role modeling experiences.

The TriVillage Mentor League awarded a $500 college scholarship to Grandview Heights volunteer teen mentor Colin Studebaker for his efforts and enthusiasm as a teen mentor. John Miller spent his entire adult life ensuring that disadvantaged young people had as many advantages as possible. His personal credo was "that it was never the child's fault" and for that reason children must be helped. Membership and leadership in organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, the Upper Arlington Rotary Club, the Homeless Families Foundation, West Broad Street Elementary School (his elementary alma mater), Boy Scouts of America, and the Memorial Tournament helped him secure many opportunities for children. He collected numerous awards along the way, but nothing meant more to him than knowing that a child had been helped in some way.

John Miller sadly passed away in December of 2005 at the age of 80 yet his memory lives on through the good works of the scholarship fund.
