REACHING OUT TO
OUR COMMUNITY AND PROMOTING VOLUNTEERISM
The
TriVillage Mentor League engages in a variety of special projects to
increase awareness of the needs of young people and the value of
volunteerism. The special projects often center on healthy
youth
development topics and volunteerism in general.
The
TriVillage
Mentor League is proud to be a part of an exciting new partnership of
five Upper Arlington community organizations that each work to promote
and cultivate the many volunteer needs and opportunities that support
and enrich our day-to-day lives.
On September 10, 2008, we will present our second Volunteer UA expo
– Volunteer UA: Where Communities & Good Causes Connect! Our event
partners
include: Upper Arlington Commission on Aging, Northwest Partners, Upper
Arlington Public Library, and the City of Upper Arlington. It
is
our hope that this event will better connect our community with a
variety of good causes and enhance all of our efforts in helping others.

REACHING OUT TO
KIDS THROUGH YOUTH SPORTS ADVOCACY
The TriVillage
Mentor League partnered with the Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation
Department and the Upper Arlington Youth and Family Council to present
Bob Bigelow, co-author of the bestselling book Just Let The
Kids Play and a leading advocate on improving youth sports
and identifying opportunities for a child-centered focus in youth
sports in February of 2005.
Given that many
youngsters first role models and mentors are often coaches, Mr. Bigelow
spoke to parents, community leaders, and youth sports leaders about the
need to keep youth sports focused on the needs of the kids, not the
adults. Mr. Bigelow also gave a startling presentation to area eighth
graders on the dangers of smokeless tobacco, peer pressure in sports,
and the need for wise decision-making skills.
